Meet Norman

Norman is a World War II veteran who has lived an adventurous life of more than 90 years. Recently, the VA told him without a new heart valve, he would only live for two more years. They recommended he go to UPMC.

Doctors at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute performed a minimally invasive surgery to replace Norman’s heart valve with a bovine implant. He’s been thrilled with the results.

“It’s amazing,” says Norman. “The experts at UPMC are first class, A1 gold.”

He credits them with extending his life, and says he’s thankful for the years he can continue to be with his wife, Marie. Together, they maintain a busy schedule, which includes performing in a “hillbilly band” and playing poker and pinochle with friends.
